Introduction
There are no roads to Juneau; the only to reach Alaska's state capital is by air or sea. Gold is what put Juneau on the map and today it is the Capital with Alaska's leading university.
Port Orientation
Cruise ships dock at Marine Park, the Ferry Terminal or at S. Franklin Dock. Depending on how many ships are in port you may have to take a tender. Regardless, this is an easy port to get around in and most everything is within easy walking distance once you get off the ship.
Transportation
There are four ways to travel around Juneau: walking, renting a car, taking a shuttle bus or a taxi.
Walking is probably the easiest and least expensive way to navigate Juneau. You could hail a taxi at MarinePark. Or you could rent a car in airport. Another popular way to get around is on the Juneau shuttle bus. Ask for details on tickets and routes at the pier.
Sightseeing
Visit Mendenhall Glacier. You can take a taxi, bus, tour or helicopter to see this magnificent glacier. There are many other great adventures you can go on while in Juneau.
