Kona, Hawaii

Introduction

Kona is not actual city but a region on the Big Island. This has very little rain and has 11 different climate zones. This area has some of the best beach, which brings in many tourist. The beaches ranges from pure white to the deepest black. You can see dolphins, turtles and manta rays, which makes for great scuba and snorkeling.


One of it most delicious exports is Kona coffee, it grows in the hill above Kailua-Kona.


Port Orientation

Holland America docks at Kailua-Kona, which is in the middle of downtown Kailua Village.


Transportation

Kailua Village is tiny, so it is very walkable. But if you are going to venture out and see the whole Kona area motorized is the way to go. There are rental cars available. Also there is a free bus service, that goes through the whole island. Or you can just hop on a shuttle bus that is available for your convenience.


Sightseeing

Check out the City of Refuge or Puuhonua O Honaunau, this is a historical National Park. It is holds the ruins of many king's homes and temples. This is the place if you could make it you could be absolved of committed a sacred taboo or Kapu and return home.


Stop by and see the Kona Coffee Plantations, this delicious coffee bean is not plentiful anywhere in the states but here. And after you take the tour cool off at the beach and try snorkeling, you will see beautiful and unique coral and see life.


For some more history stop by the Parker Ranch, the birthplace of the cowboy. This ranch has bee operating since 1849, but the land has been in use for ranching since 1791. There are many Cowboy activities to do here stop by and have a good ol time.
