This small fishing village is home to fewer than 1,000 inhabitants and the most photographed mountain in Iceland, Mount Kirkjufell. What makes this mountain so beautiful is its unique shape combined with its position to the sea. Standing at only 463 meters above the sea, this dramatic mountain and the range around it, called Helgrindur (Gates of Hell), are flanked by beautiful waterfalls within the port's walking distance. This small volcanic system consists of a chain of small cylinder-shaped cones making it very photogenic.

This port is the perfect gateway for cruise ship passengers visiting the natural splendors of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The residents here are friendly, and a local youth group always puts on an interactive performance to make visitors feel welcome.
