Great Alaskan Knitting Cruise (May 2020) ~ Knitting Cruises Description

14 Day Great Alaskan Explorer Knitting Cruise with Sally Melville
May 4 - May 18, 2020

Craft Cruises selects an enticing Alaskan cruise itinerary each year. For 2020, we are excited to announce that our Alaska cruise will be on the Maasdam, the only ship in the Holland America fleet devoted to Explorations Central In-depth Voyages. This means that the Maasdam will offer comprehensive lectures on destinations, cultural performances, and the opportunity to explore parts of Alaska from zodiac boats right off the ship, thereby making it possible to see more of Alaska up close and personal. The Maasdam's smaller size also means that it can sail through waterways larger ships cannot navigate and dock at out-of-the-way places, enhancing your chance to see Alaska at its scenic best. In addition, sailing in the spring means fewer crowds, a chance to see eagles and other migratory birds in peak migration en route to Alaskan nesting grounds, dryer days, and fewer bugs.

This itinerary sails from Vancouver, British Columbia up the heart of Canada's spectacular Inside Passage. Scenic cruising highlights include Hubbard Glacier, the largest tidewater glacier in Alaska, and the only one continuing to advance rather than retreat; Tracy Arm, a deep fjord known for its glaciers and wildlife sightings; the remote Inian Islands near Glacier Bay; and Misty Fjords. Holland America has two new stops on this voyage--Icy Strait Point, the only privately owned cruise ship destination in Alaska and one that gives passengers a chance to learn more about the Tlingit people, and Valdez, nicknamed the "Switzerland of Alaska" for its picturesque setting against the Chugach Mountains. This itinerary promises a great balance of interesting ports and plenty of scenic sea days where you'll see glaciers, waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, whales, and eagles--everything that makes Alaska a perennially favorite cruise destination. You'll leave restored and awed by nature's magnificence.

For the ultimate cruise experience we invite you to combine this 14-day Alaska cruise with the preceding 7-day cruise Pacific Coast knitting cruise sailing from San Diego with traditional knitting expert Beth Brown-Reinsel. The Pacific Coast cruise stops at many popular ports along the way including Santa Barbara, Monterey, San Francisco, Seattle and Victoria.
