Hubbard Glacier is a fascinating and dynamic feat of nature. It is over six miles wide and the face is an incredible 400 feet tall. This glacier creates icebergs that can be over four stories in height, which isn’t that uncommon. Cruise ships aren’t allowed too close to Hubbard Glacier as it has been known to surge in the past, causing the fjord to become a lake and threatening to flood the small coastal town of Yakutat.

Surrounded by beautiful mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, Juneau has the massive Mendenhall Glacier and the immense Juneau Icefields at its back door. Juneau is known most for the Tongass National Forest, its rustic shops, kayaking, dog sledding, rafting, hiking, whale watching, flightseeing and fishing. One of our favorite activities is to take the Mt. Roberts Tramway for a great hiking and photo opportunities.
