St. Petersburg, Russia

In St. Petersburg there are many remains of the Cold War, be wary of pickpockets and black market anything. You will either love or hate St. Petersburg.


The city was founded by Peter the Great in 1703. You will see Czar's palaces, churches with onion domes and the Neva River.


The Russian Currency is the Ruble but your best bet is to use the US Dollar, small bills $1, $5 and $10. Rubles are not allowed to leave the Russia.


You should drink bottled water, use little to no ice and watch out for anything washed in water while in St. Petersburg. The water in St. Petersburg is not up to western standards.


Port Orientation

The dock is a commercial port roughly 25 minutes from St. Petersburg.


Transportation

If you want to go out on your own you will need your Russian visa.


Taxis are available in St. Petersburg, but make sure you negotiate the fare upfront and be aware it's easy to get ripped off here. Be careful of black market taxi's. It is recommended you stick with official registered vehicles and have the ships berth written in Russian incase you have a driver who doesn't speak english.


You can rent a car as well, or have a private tour show you the sights.


It may be more convenient for you to use the cruise shore excursions, information on these will be given out on the ship.


Sights to See

If you want to see the sights, it is recommended you take the ship- organized excursions. You will not need a Russian Visa if you do it this way and for safety reasons.
