St Marys, Isles Of Scilly, United Kingdom

With its natural beauty and air of timelessness, St. Mary’s is a gem. Designated an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1975, St. Mary’s (with some 3,000 inhabitants) is the largest and most populous island of the Isles of Scilly, an archipelago located some 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall, England. The mild climate is moderated by the Gulf Stream, earning the Isles of Scilly the moniker of “the UK’s tropical islands.”  St. Mary’s landscape features wind-blasted bluffs, protected sand beaches, and picturesque farm fields delineated by stone walls and hedges. St. Mary’s is home to many seabirds as well as rare plants and colonies of Atlantic grey seals, making the island a destination for nature lovers. An “archaeologist’s paradise" as well, St. Mary’s contains significant Neolithic and Iron Age ruins.

Hugh Town, St. Mary’s main village, is located on a scenic isthmus between Town Beach and Porthcressa Beach. Fresh air, delectable seafood, natural vistas, and historic sites make St. Mary’s a beautiful port of call.
