Most Eastern Caribbean cruises include St. Thomas because it offers something for everyone.  Part American and part Caribbean, St. Thomas boasts scenic beauty, historical sites and plenty of things to do.  St. Thomas has its own special charm making it a satisfying place to relax and chase all of your tropical dreams.  Walk along some of the Caribbean’s best beaches, hike amongst pretty flora and fauna, set sail on crystal turquoise water, shop to your heart’s content or try your luck gambling.

Charlotte Amalie, the main cruise port for St. Thomas, boasts a very dramatic setting.  Charlotte Amalie wraps around a stunning horseshoe-shaped bay surrounded by colorful houses and green hills.

Ship Location

Cruise ships dock at both the West Indian Company Dock at Havensight (2 mi/3 km across the harbor, east of town) and at Crown Bay (1.5 mi/2.4 km west of town).  At times, some ships even have to anchor in the harbor and tender passengers to and from shore when the piers are full.

There are two conveniently located welcome centers offering helpful tourist information and there are plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance of all port facilities.

Getting Around

Taxis are by far the most efficient way to get around when there are several ships in port but there are also ferries, public busses, and canopied trucks called "safari busses".

Attractions

Popular activities here include sightseeing in historic Charlotte Amalie or more active adventures such as biking, kayaking, scuba diving or helicopter tours.  Charlotte Amalie’s duty-free status have made it one of the best places in the Caribbean to shop and is known for its local arts and crafts as well as jewelry, liquor and collectibles from around the world.

St. Thomas has a rich in history since it was settled by the Danish and has always been a very prominent port for shipping-related businesses. Popular attractions include Fort Christian, the Government House, and Blackbeard's Castle.  Here visitors also enjoy visiting such churches as the St. Thomas Reformed Church, the Frederick Lutheran Church, band Memorial Moravian Church.

Visit one of the two islands in the harbor, Water and Hassel.  Hassel Island can be reached by launch or kayak and is a national park.  Water Island, reached by ferry, is a residential "suburb" of Charlotte Amalie and is a pleasant place to ride a rented bike to enjoy an uncrowded day at the beach.
