With a warm climate year round, this port city is divided into 3 different districts with a land area of roughly 4.6 square miles. Banjul holds the seat of government and is the countries administrative and economic centre. Various different produce is shipped from this port such as palm oil and wood, beeswax and skin and hides but the main industry here is peanut processing.

In the Republic of Gambia, West Africa, Banjul is the capital with a population of over 34,000 people and is located on St Mary’s Island, otherwise known as Banjul Island. Leased by the British colonial government in 1865, this flat island decided to name a settlement after the Secretary of State for the British Colonies, Lord Henry Bathurst- hence the Bathurst settlement.
