Walvis Bay, Namibia

Situated on the southwestern coast of Africa, Walvis Bay is an important hub for tourism, and attracts a large number of visitors from around the globe every year. This well-placed, bustling port is an incredible gateway to the overwhelming beauty of the Namib Desert where desert and sand sports are extremely popular.

 

Established in 1840, the British seized Walvis Bay during the times of African colonization, returning it to the jurisdiction of Namibia in 1994 after the South African government surrendered to political pressure. With such an interesting history, dating back many years, this is somewhere that is sure to hold the attention of inquisitive minds.
