Perth (Fremantle), Australia

The town of Perth is located at the mouth of the Swan River and is the capitol of Western Australia. Many shops can be located at Ye Old London Court (which has a medieval-London atmosphere) and world-famous surf beaches lurk behind every corner. By far one of the greatest adventures is the famous Underwater World where the aquarium displays a 321 foot underwater tunnel that consists of 2,500 examples of 200 marine species including sharks and stingrays. During the summer months an outdoor concert at the Perth Zoo or Kings Park is an excellent pass time.

Off the shore of Perth is Rottnest Island where many tourists enjoy a boat ride over to the automobile-free side of life. It is estimated that 110,000 people visit Perth daily and has deemed Perth as a "city on the move." It is Australia's largest growing city and is becoming more and more modern each day. Perth has a steadily growing population of 1.74 million people. Perth became known as the "City of Light" when city residents lit their house lights and streetlights as American astronaut John Glenn passed overhead while orbiting the earth on Friendship 7. Perth is also acclaimed in The Economist and is tied in eighth place for the 2011 list of the world's most livable cities.
