Picton, New Zealand

Introduction

Once a Maori settlement Picton is now a scenic seaside town the is where the Interislander Ferry departs and arrives from Wellington. Blenheim is the main point of interest in this region and is only 25 minutes away by car.


Port Orientation

The cruise ship dock is close to downtown Picton and is just a short walk along the waterfront. There are also free shuttles for cruise passengers. The entire township is very small and is easy to walk anywhere you want to go.


Transportation

Taxis are easy to find but make sure you find out if credit cards are taken before you get in. Taxi is the best way to visit some fo the local wineries.


Sightseeing

The commercial hub of Marlborough is Blenheim, which is now most well known for its distinctive, herbaceous Sauvignon Blanc. It is New Zealand’s largest winemaking region with around 65 wineries and 290 grape growers and over 4000 hectares planted in grapes, mainly Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer.
