Auckland, New Zealand

Introduction

In addition to being the melting pot of the Pacific, New Zealand has had strong British influences and is known for its Maori culture. Unlike Australia, a penal colony for the UK, New Zealand required letters of recommendation prior to relocation. The people of New Zealand as well as its landscapes are in contrast to those of Australia.

Port Orientation

The ship docks at Princess Wharf in the heart of downtown Auckland. It is in a fun location with lots of shops, restaurants and cool hangouts along the waterfront. Taking a ferry could not be simpler and most cruises do not depart until late at night giving ample time to explore.

Transportation

Walking or taxi cabs are the best way to go.

Sightseeing

Auckland is everyone's first stop with much to offer. From dozens of nearby beaches ranging from black sand to golden there are numerous off shore islands to explore including Waiheke Island just a short ferry ride away with rolling hills, beautiful gardens and excellent wineries such as the Mudbrick Winery overlooking the sparkling bay and to downtown Auckland. It is just stunning!

In addition to beaches and nature trails you can jump off the Sky Tower, or walk on its glass floor, visit Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter or try an America's Cup sailing experience.
